The world of digital media and e-marketing will no longer look so daunting to arts professionals and creatives, with the launch of a new digital skills training programme by Culture Northern Ireland.
With marketing budgets being cut across the board, now is the time for organisations to look at cost-effective, high-impact ways of getting their message across, and how modern technologies can enhance their work.
Culture Northern Ireland’s new digital skills training programme offers hands on training in topics such as Social Networking, Podcasting and Creating E-newsletters, as well as software packages such as Photoshop and Wordpress.
David Lewis, director of Culture Northern Ireland, said: 'The intention of the programme is to demystify the brave new world of digital media and e-marketing, and to increase skills in the arts and creative sectors.
'The courses will be held in Belfast and Derry and are aimed at arts professionals marketing events, as well as artists seeking to promote their latest creation.'
The programme launch, held simultaneously in the Midtown Centre, Belfast, and the Nerve Centre, Derry, on Wednesday 15 September, gave attendees the opportunity to try out some of the digital technologies on offer.
Digital marketing expert Gordon Campbell, Managing Director of The Design Zoo, emphasised the importance of organisations having a clear digital strategy and the benefits in terms of sales and marketing data that can result.
Culture Northern Ireland’ s training programme is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and DCAL, through the Creative Industries Innovation Fund, and is backed by agencies across the creative sector, including Audiences NI, NI Screen, Northern Ireland Museums Council and Craft NI.
Noirin McKinney, Director of Arts Development, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said: 'As the digital age dawns, e-marketing is becoming an increasingly valuable tool for businesses but, without the right training and support, breaking into online communications can feel like a daunting prospect.
'Culture Northern Ireland’s Digital Skills Training Programme has been developed to provide a useful introduction to digital media and to help give organisations the confidence to devise their own e-marketing plans.'
