About Us

CultureNorthernIreland is NI's leading arts and cultural website, covering music, literature, heritage, sport, dance, theatre, the visual arts and much more besides. With thousands of articles, reviews, profiles, event listings, and multimedia content, CNI is a unique and exciting resource.

The Nerve Centre
CultureNorthernIreland is produced by the Nerve Centre. The Nerve Centre was established in 1990 as a focal point for youth culture in Derry, Northern Ireland's second city. By bringing popular music, film, video, animation and interactive multimedia together under one roof, the Nerve Centre promotes creative collaboration and fusion between artists and provides a cultural outlet for many young people who feel excluded from what is traditionally regarded as the 'arts sector'.

The Nerve Centre is, first and foremost, a production house, or if you like, cultural factory for the creation of new music, film, video, animation and digital media. In recent years it has developed a new model of teaching and learning for the digital age – the Creative Learning Centre. Two such centres are now in operation in Derry and Belfast, providing hands-on workshops and projects for young people, training for teachers in the use of digital technologies, and interactive resources that promote cross-curricular learning.

The Nerve Centre currently has over 100,000 people benefiting from the work of the centre across its various events, programmes and projects.
