Belly Laughs Line-up is No Joke
Belfast Comedy Festival returns with more variety than ever in addition to usual programme of stellar stand-up from September 23 to October 4
Belfast’s only dedicated comedy festival has launched its programme for 2015 featuring a host of established international and new comic performers.
The largest festival of its kind in Ireland, Belly Laughs doesn't limit itself to just stand-up comedy and strives to challenge, inspire and inform through clowning, cabaret, workshops, seminars, film, bus and walking tours, club nights, and events for children.
Critically acclaimed comedians such as Daniel Sloss, Ardal O’Hanlon, Sara Pascoe and Diane Morgan, many fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, will appear in venues across the city while Tim McGarry, Nuala McKeever, Paul Currie and Neil Dougan are amongst the leading lights of homegrown talent to feature across the packed programme.
The festival will also showcase a number of clowning performances, including US cult artist Red B****** who will be appearing in Northern Ireland for the first time. The ever popular Comedy Bus Tour runs again allowing both residents and visitors the chance to enjoy an alternative view of Belfast with Paddy McDonnell, one of the city's most entertaining acts, showing the funnier side of the sights with surprises along the way.
NI sketch group Those Who Can’t will also perform their new show, there's a Wild West-themed cabaret show while storytelling night tenx9 will showcase the best rib-ticklers from their recent events and a series of iconic comedy films will be screened during lunchtime in the city centre.
Add to this a conference on the state of the comedy industry; a walking tour of Belfast Music Halls; kids comedy events; workshops on comedy writing and improv, and even some Laughter Yoga, then you have the ingredients for one of the quirkiest and most diverse arts festivals in the city.
Festival Director Peter O’Neill says the unique festival will appeal to audiences of all ages with a programme that presents great value in this difficult funding environment. 'We are delighted to present another rich programme of ground breaking comedy designed to get Belfast laughing,' he adds.
'There’s something for everyone in our packed programme of over 40 events which provides a great platform for accessing the arts.'
