Desperately Seeking Spielberg

Cinemagic International Film Festival calls for junior film consultants

The Cinemagic International Film Festival for Young People is recruiting 25 young film enthusiasts (aged 10-18) from across Northern Ireland to act as festival programme consultants.

Successful entrants will help pick and choose the best films to include in the 2008 festival running order.

The award-winning festival programme features more than 100 film screenings, including special premieres, documentaries, shorts, foreign language films, industry masterclasses and competitions. A number of special guest appearances will also add a touch of glamour to this 17-day festival.

In a three-day workshop beginning on Monday July 7, the young consultants will work with the Cinemagic team to steer the choice of films for the festival, watching and critiquing films from around the globe.

Over the years Cinemagic has welcomed hundreds of young people to the young consultants’ panel where they have contributed ideas to the festival programme and helped with the markeying and promotion of festival events, as well as introducing their schools and teachers to the variety of workshops and films on offer.

If you are a budding young film critic or you know anyone who would enjoy the opportunity to spend three days working with Cinemagic in Belfast, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded young people and have fun deciding the content of the largest film festival for young people in the UK and Ireland.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic Film Programmer, explains what the young consultants can look forward to:

'Cinemagic is dedicated to providing new and exciting opportunities for young people with interests in all aspects of film, whether they want to enjoy new films or take their interest to a new level and explore career options in the film industry.

'The young film consultants have the opportunity to watch international films they would not normally have access to. The panel at this year's film festival - which takes place in Belfast in November - will represent the youth of Ireland.

'We are looking forward to bringing together a group of enthusiastic young people to work on the festival from July through to December. The three-day workshop provides lots of opportunities for discussion and debate and provides a lively platform for young people to interact with each other and increase future paths of communication for social and educational purposes.'
