MTV Crash Derry Again

Broadcast giant returns this summer to stage another 'major' music event on the Banks of the Foyle

Following last year's MTV Crashes extravaganza in Derry, the television network are set to return to Ebrington with a one-off outdoor music event on Saturday, August 15.

The concert, presented in partnership with the events company that brought Snoop Dogg to the city in October 2014, is billed as a Club MTV event and will reportedly comprise a major headliner along with a full support bill and the opportunity for local artists to feature.

Last year's Club leg of MTV's two-day takeover boasted DJ sets from drum'n'bass chart toppers Chase & Status and Sigma. Full line-up and ticket details are expected to be announced soon.

Over 10,000 people flocked to Ebrington Square in 2014 for the city's first large scale music event since the previous year's Radio One Big Weekend, with coverage broadcast on MTV's flagship UK channels later in the year.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Elisha McCallion welcomed news of its return. 'Last year’s event was a phenomenal success and a key element of the city’s legacy commitment to our young people, and I am delighted MTV has returned for what will be a hugely successful event for everyone involved.'

Club MTV launched in 2013 and has since toured the UK hosting everything from student union nights to festivals. Its current mascot and resident artist is Varski, a formerly face-painted DJ who has previously enjoyed stints with Ministry of Sound and served to help warm up the thousands in attendance for last year's gig.

Club MTV takes place at Ebrington Square on August 15. Further line-up and ticket details to come.
