Neil Shawcross Tours the World
Hillsborough painter captures three decades of travel with a signature spin on vintage posters in latest exhibition
Posters from some of the world’s most famous museums, art galleries and concert halls will take a unique twist in the latest exhibition by renowned artist Neil Shawcross, currently running at at Belfast’s Malone Exchange.
‘World Tour Part 1’ sees posters from venues across the world form the canvasses for each of the artist’s works. He has painted an array of varying subjects on the posters, sometimes fully replacing the existing image, while on other occasions complimenting the poster art.
An avid collector of posters from shows, exhibitions, concerts and other events Neil has produced 45 paintings for display at this show. He has accumulated a collection of approximately 100 posters from across the world over the last thirty years including Belfast, Dublin, London, Liverpool, Paris, New York, San Francisco, Washington, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Ontario among others. The first tranche of these are included in this exhibition.
Speaking before the exhibition launch art consultant Michael Flanagan said: 'This is one of the most exciting collections of Neil’s work to be exhibited and tells a story of travel and cultural immersion over three decades. Neil Shawcross’ spontaneity and inimitable style is reflected in his work and art lovers can expect to see classic Shawcross with a unique twist.'
The Shawcross World Tour Part 1 is open from 10am to 5.30pm daily until Saturday June 20 at Malone Exchange, 226 Lisburn Road, Belfast. For more arts exhibitions and events in Northern Ireland visit our What's On section.
