Are You an Aspiring Arts Critic?
Would-be reviewers aged 18-25 have the chance to hone their skills with an all-expenses trip to On The Edge theatre festival in Birmingham
Young at Art, Theatre NI and TYA NI have launched a call out offering budding writers and arts lovers between the ages of 18 and 25 the opportunity to learn the craft of professional critics.
Two successful applicants to the Young Critics programme from Northern Ireland will join ten others from the UK and Ireland at On The Edge, the World Festival of Theatre for Young Audiences in Birmingham, where they'll attend four days of productions (July 4 - 7), discover how and why theatre is made, and learn how to critically discuss, analyse, and review the art form.
In order to offer individual advice and guidance on developing each young person’s critical skills, places on the programme are limited to 12 places in total, including two from the festival's host city. Applicants are sought to be comfortable meeting new people, working in a highly focused way and are not afraid to share their thoughts and opinions with each other.
Those selected will travel to Birmingham on Sunday, July 3 and in addition to seeing a number of performances, will get to interact with the city, participate in workshops, live blog and participate in a public panel discussion. Accommodation, food, theatre tickets and travel costs to the city are all covered by The Partner Organisations.
On The Edge is an annual event that takes place in a different international city each year. From July 2-9 Birmingham welcomes delegates and audiences from around the globe to enjoy world-leading theatre for children and young people, plus workshops, panel discussions, social events, work in progress sharings and more.
Successful applicants will be notified by June 1. For further information please contact Eibhlin at Young at Art 028 9023 0660, or Niamh at Theatre NI 028 9031 1806.
