Co Down

Dorans Academy, based in the heart of Co. Down; aims to boost confidence, self esteem and help children reach and explore their potential in a fun and relaxed atmosphere helping children to move out of their comfort zone without feeling under pressure. The complementary classes on offer build confidence, self-esteem, expression, literacy, comprehension, reading, memory, concentration, performance, singing, dancing and social skills.

In Speech and Drama we aim to also bring books and poetry to life for children of all abilities and ages, in a safe, comfortable and fun environment. The skills that speech and Drama arm children with are ones which stick with them long after the curtain has fallen.

It is a fantastic tool through which children can explore and develop their full potential no matter what path their life choices lead them on. The excitement and buzz of the stage is one to be relished and books, poems, plays should be devoured and relished.

Dorans Academy believe there is a little star inside each and every child just bursting to get out and it aims to nurture it fully and enrich children with skills and techniques to emotionally, physically and vocally handle the challenges of life.

The Academy has a complementary range of classes on offer. With two drama groups Ragamuffins (nursery - P3), Scallywags (P4 - P7) and Thespians (Year 8+) and Speech and Drama classes for all ages; 3 to teenagers.

Laced with various voice, movement and relaxation exercises conducted through the medium of play combined with music, art and dance it really is the ultimate experience in home grown drama.

Various other opportunities form part of our Drama and Speech and Drama year with opportunities to participate in the competitive environment of the feis; our own Christmas Charity show and End of year productions, poetry afternoons as well as gain exam success with the London College of Music in Speech and Communication. The opportunities are rich, extremely rewarding, beneficial and above all enjoyable.
