Red Lemon Productions

New theatre company premiers its first ever production

Red Lemon Productions is a new innovative theatre company, established by, Patrick O’Reilly (director), Rosie McClelland, Conall Kelly and Lorraine Cummins (producer) striving to make their mark on the Belfast theatre circuit. The company welcomes artists and general public alike to engage in their perception of theatre.

Their first production Eleven Minutes is based on the world renowned novel of the same name by Paulo Coelho. It will be running for two nights only in the Catalyst Arts Gallery on May 10 and 11, 2005.

The novel tells the real life story of a young Brazilian girl called Maria striving to find her true path in life, and the obstacles she encounters along the way: ‘I can choose either to be a victim of the world or an adventurer in search of treasure, it’s all a question of how I view my life.’

Paulo Coelho is widely celebrated for his distinctive style of writing and his ability to seize the modern reader’s awareness of social issues. Various theatre companies worldwide have seen the great dramatic potential of his work.

The Alchemist, for example, has been adapted and produced on all five continents in various theatrical forms. This will be the stage debut for the culturally debated novel Eleven Minutes.

O’Reilly’s aim is to create and produce exciting theatre that will revive the modern audience’s attention by introducing the amalgamation of sacred and secular ritual through performance. His vision for the piece was to introduce different and dramatic styles with different world practices such as butoh dance into our theatre to give the play a unique and universal feel.

Through ritual theatre, theatre without boundaries, he wants to bring the margin of life to the stage teaching us that through our lives there will always be a devil in our path to accompany the angel.
