Washingbay, Co Tyrone
A beautiful area renowned for leisure and recreation
Traditionally renowned as a bathing area and as a meeting place, Washingbay in Co Tyrone is located on the south-western shore of Lough Neagh, three miles from the busy M1 motorway.
Although it is a rural area, Washingbay is relatively close to some of the larger towns in the county. It is situated five miles from Coalisland, eight miles from Dungannon and nine miles from Cookstown. Craigavon is also in close proximity to the area. being sixteen miles away (as the crow flies), whilst Armagh City is only eighteen miles from Washingbay.
Historically Washingbay has played a significant role in the promotion and development of leisure and recreational activities in Mid-Ulster - long before the modern development of leisure centres and other such similar amenities.
The area still attracts significant numbers (particularly at weekends and during the summer months) who visit it for its natural beauty and relaxing rural atmosphere, which the shoreline site affords the visitor.
