Nought As Queer As Folk

The first Outburst queer arts festival comes to Belfast

Outburst Programme

Outburst is Ireland’s first ever queer arts festival, with 10 days of cultural events happening in Belfast from November 22 - December 1. Funded by Awards For All, the festival aims to highlight and celebrate lesbian, gay, bi and transgender creativity, with local and internationally acclaimed artists sharing the spotlight.

As well as a packed programme of theatre, spoken word, debate, music and creative workshops, Outburst are delighted to be partnering with the Belfast Film Festival for a series of queer films at the Baby Grand (Grand Opera House).

Other highlights of the Outburst festival at Belfast's Black Box venue include a short run of Julie McNamara’s highly acclaimed play Pig Tales, and an evening with avant garde performer David Hoyle.

Outburst also invites LGBT/queer artists to submit small artworks (prints, oils, comics, collage, photography, graphics) on the general theme of 'beginnings' for their visual art exhibition, which will be on display throughout the festival at The Black Box. Work should be no more than 7 inches by 7 inches, preferably 2D and framed if possible/appropriate. Due to the nature of the exhibition space, 3D work can only be considered if box-framed and wall mountable.

Outburst are also looking for submissions to their short film competition, details of which can be found on the Outburst website.

Ticketing details will be available from the Outburst website after the festival launch on October 22. Visit the site for information on submitting work to visual exhibitions and for details on how you can get involved with the festival.
