The Producers Comes to Newtownabbey

Theatre at the Mill develop Northern Ireland's first ever professional production of the hilarious musical comedy

Theatre at The Mill will take a groundbreaking step this summer when it stages Northern Ireland’s first ever professional production of the multiple Tony award-winning musical comedy The Producers.

Some of Northern Ireland’s most talented young performers are currently lining up to star in the production, which runs from August 3 to 11. The show’s director, Peter Corry, believes that Northern Ireland audiences will be wowed by this hilarious, all-singing, all-dancing musical spectacular.

'This is a big show in every respect, full of huge dance numbers, great tunes and sparkling dialogue,' said Corry. 'The show was massive on Broadway and in the West End, but for those who haven’t had the chance to see it yet, they’re in for a treat.'

The Producers will be the third production for the Theatre at The Mill Summer Youth Musical Group. Their previous shows, Les Miserables (2010) and Oklahoma! (2011), received rave reviews and played to sell-out crowds.

The Producers is based on the famous Mel Brooks movie starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder (watch an extract below, featuring the song 'Springtime for Hitler'). It was first developed as musical theatre production in 2001, winning 12 Tony awards. It proved equally successful when transferring to London, where it ran for three years and spawned a successful 2005 film.

The story tells of Broadway producer Max Bialystock and nerdy accountant Leo Bloom who plan to make millions by producing a sure-fire flop so that they can run off with the money when the show closes after its opening night. Unfortunately for them, their musical, Springtime for Hitler, is so outrageously camp it becomes a massive hit.

Tickets for this Theatre at the Mill production start from £9 and are available online at the Theatre at the Mill website or from the Box Office on 028 9034 0202.
