Mahee Island Golf Course

Overview of the scenic 9-hole course

Mahee Island’s nine hole golf course was founded in 1930 and is one of the most scenic in Ireland. The course offers an enjoyable test for golfers of all abilities in the picturesque surroundings of Strangford Lough.

A tough par of 68, one of the most enjoyable holes at Mahee is the short downhill eighth hole, ‘Bird Island’. This hole could be said to be just the proverbial ‘flick with a wedge’, but a well placed sand trap and subtly contoured green ensure it causes its fair share of problems.

The club’s first professional golfer was Fred Daly, the only Irishman ever to win the British Open and Match Play championships. Two trees still stand on the first fairway where Daly practised his short game by chipping into a hole in one of them.
