Designer and maker of bespoke furniture and environmental sculpture
Alan Cargo has a degree in engineering from Leeds University and a postgraduate Certificate in Education specialising in design and technology. Cargo has lived and worked in England, Ireland, and Africa as a teacher, furniture maker and sculptor, and has also travelled extensively throughout Europe, Africa and Asia.
This breadth of experience has informed Cargo’s working practice in terms of range of materials and diversity of techniques in differing contexts. Clients and commissioners include local councils, schools and colleges, aid organisations, bars, restaurants and individuals. Community involvement is central to many of these commissions, allowing individuals to develop skills, enhance their environment, and generate a sense of ownership and participation in the finished pieces.
Involved on the Cultivating Creativity project in Kilrea, Co Londonderry, Alan Cargo is currently self-employed as a designer and maker of bespoke furniture and environmental sculpture.
