Northern Ireland's only professional dance company
Maiden Voyage is a Belfast based dance company committed to professional dance performance and development in Northern Ireland.
Established in 2001 by Artistic Director Nicola Curry from Armagh, the company hopes to ignite talent, evolve practice and generate greater understanding in dance through a programme of commissions, professional development opportunities and educational projects.
With support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Lottery Department, Maiden Voyage have commissioned New York City based dance artist Jodi Melnick to create a new duet for dancers Nicola Curry and Dublin based Jenny Roche. Melnick is a former dancer with Twyla Tharp and a 2001 Bessie Award recipient.
In a tale of this maybe town, Wanderlust, Kentucky, Jodi Melnick, with her unique movement style has created a post-modern dance juxtaposed with the unexpected. It features a sublime soundscape by John Gromada.
Wanderlust, Kentucky is the company’s second choreographic commission following the debut Senses, a co-production with Rex Levitates in 2002, choreographed by Liz Roche.
Wanderlust, Kentucky will be shown as part of EarthQuake Festival of International Dance 2005 at Island Arts Centre on April 7, 2005 at 8pm. Maiden Voyage will be joined by Anne Gilpin for a double bill as she performs Dreambabydream.
