Classical Best-seller Russell Watson to Wow Belfast Waterfront
A hit with everyone from the Queen to the Pope, 'The Voice' returns next month to captivate audiences with new songs alongside familiar favourites
Russell Watson – the UK’s all-time best-selling classical crossover artist - is set to play a special one night only concert at Belfast Waterfront on Wednesday, December 6.
During his Waterfront concert Russell, also popularly known as ‘The Voice’, will perform a stunning collection of best-loved songs along with tracks from his new studio album, True Stories.
'He sings like Pavarotti, and entertains the audience like Sinatra' - The New York Times
Captivating to watch and enchanting to listen to, Russell Watson continues to wow audiences with his enigmatic and entertaining live performances.
During his illustrious career to date he has sold millions of albums, sung in the world’s most celebrated concert halls and performed for the Queen, the Pope and two US Presidents.
Having come to attention when performing prior to the 1999 Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, Watson is also remembered for singing at the historic UEFA Champions League encounter between Bayern Munich and Manchester United that same year, in which the English side completed a triumphant treble-winning season.
The star last entertained Belfast audiences in 2015, when he was joined at the Waterfront by a cross-community choir from the east of the city, after running a competition earlier in the year for the opportunity to accompany him on a number of songs. 'I love being accompanied by choirs and the energy and excitement they bring,' said Watson at the time.
More recently, speaking to CultureHUB Magazine, he opened up about overcoming a second life-threatening tumour 10 years ago and how he had been shunned by the music industry throughout the ordeal. 'I’ll never forget it,' he said. 'Every time now I sell a concert tour out, every time I do an event; I won’t stop until something is done. It’s like "I’m here again. I’m back"'.
Watson's concert comes as part of an eclectic season of events at the Waterfront which originally promised 'over 100 great nights out'. Still to come is a wealth of A-list entertainment spanning more live music, stand-up comedy and even a series of special Christmas-themed events including classic film screenings, this year's pantomime Sleeping Beauty and Peter Corry's popular seasonal show The Music Box.
