Cultural things are happening in London Street, within Derry's Walls. Gary’s Antiques and Collectables, The Whatnot, Café Teapot, Bedlam Market and SmartSwag are all independent businesses with a wealth of enthusiasm.

In addition to the new Bishop's Gate Hotel there's Cowley Gallery, a continuation of the McGilloway Gallery opened by Ken McGilloway in 1984, which hosts an eclectic collection of contemporary Irish art.

Proprietor Christine Cowley aims for the gallery to provide an ever changing display of art in a fantastic location. She is married to established artist Pat Cowley and can offer a personal service to buyers and collectors.

The current winter exhibition features new artists like Angela Emsen-West, who recently won the top award at the Ulster Watercolour Society, as well as Margaret Stevenson, whose works capture the mood of the Hebrides.

Suzie is an award-winning fibre artist whose work, inspired by the culture, myths and fairytales surrounding her Mayo home, is a fusion of her own artistic vision and her diverse craft techniques comprising hand dyed felt.

Trudie studied Fine Art Printmaking at the Brighton Polytechnic College of Art and Design. She lives in Ramelton, Co. Donegal and has been selected for the RHA and RUA.

Padraig is an Irish contemporary artist whose paintings explore the rich landscapes and coastlines of the west of Ireland. He resides in Achill Island. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30am - 5pm.
