Winterland Market to showcase best of Derry’s craft and artisan offering
Find the perfect gift, savour seasonal food and drink and even see a life-sized polar bear among the city's Christmas festivities this weekend
The best craft and artisan goods the North West has to offer will be front and centre at Derry~Londonderry's Winterland Market which takes over the city's Guildhall Square from December 14 - 17.
Residents and visitors alike will have the chance to experience the full spectrum of Derry's festivities this year, from shopping to family entertainment along with its famous hospitality. The market is aimed at showcasing the best of local and visiting craft trade as well as providing the perfect opportunity to pick up some unique gifts and sample the city’s thriving craft beer scene.
Hailed as the ultimate traditional Derry Christmas experience, up to 30 traders from a wide range of craft and food sectors will help to get the city into the holiday spirit with products to tempt tastebuds and test the strength of shopping bags.
A key attraction for the kids this year will be the presence of ‘Bjorn the Bear’ – a life-sized majestic polar creature that blinks, sniffs and makes real sounds all within a sculpted inflatable ice environment to help him feel at home. His show is based on real science and is an amazing addition to our market programme that is bound to get the children into the festive cheer. Bjorn the Bear will make a series of special appearances at the market on Saturday 16 and Sunday, December 17 at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
For the adults there will be craft beer and gins stalls by local specialists – Sippy Fest and RooRoo Ltd – while nightly live musical entertainment will be provided by the Guildhall Taphouse, making it the perfect location to meet up with friends or work colleagues for that well-earned Christmas drink.
