A festival of dance that will brighten up Belfast City from September 14 - 20 with pop-up performances, a mass dance celebration, photographic exhibitions and film showings alongside a Youth Dance Showcase, bringing groups from across the island of Ireland, the UK and Europe to Northern Ireland for the first time.
On Friday September 18 the youth dance groups will take part in a vibrant and energetic dance jam as part of Culture Night, head down to Writers Square at 6pm & 8pm to see them.
Over 300 local dancers will flood the city of Belfast on Saturday for an afternoon with everything from Tango at train stops to Hip Hop in empty shops, in association with somewhereto_ — a project which helps 16-25 year olds access free space and support to make activities happen and so breathe life into our cities. Look out for pop up dance performances from 1.30pm building up to a mass dance celebration with live music from Beyond Skin, in the grounds of City Hall at 3.30pm.
On Saturday evening the youth dance groups will take to the stage at the Theatre at the Mill, Newtownabbey as DU Dance presents some of the best youth dance from Austria, England, Germany, Ireland, Northern Ireland and the National Youth Groups from Scotland and Wales. For family audiences and anyone with an interest in dance this is one show not to be missed.
'It is really exciting to be able to welcome some of the professional dancers of the future to Northern Ireland. Almost all are coming here for the first time and our own young dancers will get to meet and network with them. I hope that wherever people go in Belfast City over the weekend, 18th – 20th September, dance will be in evidence'. Mags Byrne, DU Dance (NI) Artistic Director.
Running alongside this from Monday September 14 will be a series of Dance Photography & Film Exhibitions on the Big Screen in Belfast, at Belfast City Hall, the Crescent Arts Centre and Theatre at the Mill.
