Universal Pictures releases the first official trailer featuring Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan in the lead role

The first official trailer for the forthcoming cinematic adaptation of EL James' racy trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey has been released by Universal Pictures.

Featuring Holywood actor Jamie Dornan in the lead role of Christian Grey, the film will hits cinemas in the UK and Ireland on Valentine's Day 2015.

James' erotic novels – Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed – have sold a staggering 70m copies worldwide, and made the former television executive one of the highest-selling living authors of all time.

32-year-old Dornan replaced Charlie Hunnam in the film in late 2013, undoubtedly scoring the most high-profile job of his career thus far. The model turned actor has also starred in Sofia Coppola's lavish period piece Marie Antoinette and hit BBC crime drama The Fall.

Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, and features Oscar-nominated Northern Irish cinematographer Seamus McGarvey as director of photography. The film is being produced with a budget of $40 million.
