Foyle Film Festival to Host Big Lebowski Bash

Special cinema screening, bowling competition and prize trip to Iceland lined up for dedicated night themed around the Coen brothers' cult favourite

Disciples of 'The Dude' are in for the ultimate treat this week as Foyle Film Festival presents an entire night dedicated to the Coen brothers' cult classic The Big Lebowski.

Taking place on Thursday, June 23 at Derry~Londonderry's Brunswick Moviebowl, the evening promises to be a party fans of the film with a rare chance to see it on the big screen from 8pm, followed by a quick-fire bowling competition, trivia quiz and prize for best costume, as well as special promotions on 'the Caucasian', the signature cocktail popularised by Jeff Bridges' character.

Since its 1998 release The Big Lebowski has been recognised as the ultimate ‘hangout’ movie and a sacred text of slackers everywhere. Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and Julianne Moore, the film follows the 'Dude' and his bowling buddies on a journey that blends unforgettable characters, kidnapping, a case of mistaken identity and White Russians.

The Festival's ‘The Ultimate Trip: Big Screen Movies to Blow Your Mind’ programme has already seen a double bill screening of Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now and High-Rise, which was filmed in Bangor during 2015 and stars Tom Hiddleston, Sienna Millar, Jeremy Irons and Elizabeth Moss.

The Big Lebowski party will be followed by back-to-back screenings of Mel Gibson's dystopian blockbusters Mad Max and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior on Saturday, July 2 - a perfect opportunity to retrace the origins of last year's Oscars-sweeping remake.

Anyone who pre-books tickets will have the chance to win a trip for two to Reykjavik, Iceland - home of The Big Lebowski Bar. Enter via Tickets are available from

The screenings are funded by the BFI Film Audience Network and Film Hub NI ’30 films to see before you’re 30’ fund.
