QFT Screening Room: Episode 4

Watch trailers of the best in QFT's Romanian movie season and romantic flicks for Valentine's Day

With Queen's Film Theatre general manager and Screening Room regular Susan Picken out of action with flu, Sarah Hughes, marketing officer at QFT, stepped into the breach this month to present Screening Room: Episode 4.

The programme for February is, as ever, chock full of new and classic arthouse movies to capture the imagination, and this month Screening Room features trailers from some of the most talked about films of all time.

QFT members will no doubt be looking forward to watching the multi-Oscar nominated psychological thriller Black Swan, by director Darren Aronofsky, in the comfort of Queen's Film Theatre. The film opens on February 11.

The most intriguing aspect of the February programme, however, is certainly Waves, Storms and Horizons: Cinema Romania, a season of features and documentaries from eastern Europe.

A must for lovers of arthouse cinema, the season features a documentary portrait of the late Romanian dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu - the offical selection at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival - as well as a masterclass from Romanian director and screenwriter, Cristi Puiu.

Other screenings highlighted in this episode of Screening Room include the 'Scottish City of God', NEDS – a film from writer/director Peter Mullan about adolescence and the underworld in Scotland in the 1970s -, and noir classic, The Big Sleep, starring the great Humphrey Bogart.

And, with Valentine’s Day on the horizon, QFT will be providing lovers with a choice of romantic movies with both Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams (watch this space for a review in the coming weeks).
