Relapse Pictures Release Coco Short Film
Seán Murray's hilarious story of an out of work Belfast clown ends with a timely twist on election day – watch the full film, parental guidance recommended
Life as a clown is not all fun and games, as the debut short film from Relapse Pictures founder Seán Murray clearly shows.
Created as a post-graduate project at Queen's University, and recently premiered at the Belfast Film Festival, Coco tells the story of the eponymous clown, who struggles to find work in austerity Belfast before being given an unlikely lifeline.
The hilarious film – starring Game of Thrones actor Kevin Keenan in the lead role, and featuring a suitably sombre score by Martin Byrne – ends with a timely twist, with the film being released online the day before election day, May 6, 2015.
'I toyed with various endings,' explains Murray. 'But, in the end, I thought this worked best. It's subtle, and wonderfully acted by Kevin Keenan.
'It's not a criticism of those pushing for an equality agenda up at Stormont. There is a misconception that it's a two-party system in Northern Ireland and nothing of value gets done, but there are plenty of good people on the hill working towards equality.'
Murray will now turn his attention to another short film set for release in August.
