St Augustines Church
Another architectural gem within the walls
This beautiful little chapel-of-ease lies between the city walls and Palace Street. The site held the only church in the city until St Columb’s cathedral was completed in 1633.
As far as we can determine, the medieval church continued to stand until the middle of the 18th century, when it was replaced. The present church succeeded the latter building in 1872. The church and its graveyard are situated in a picturesque location and contain a number of interesting memorial stones.
