The Flat Lake Literary & Arts Festival 2008
From literary giants to X-tractor talent contests
Celebrating 40 years of the Ulster poets and serving up a smorgasbord of writers and artists, the Flat Lake Festival returns to County Monaghan on August 23-24.
This year's exciting line up includes Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, Canadian Poet Laureate George McWhirter, Edna O’Brien, Paul Muldoon, Ciaran Carson, Chris Morris, Keith Allen, Paul Brady and Medbh McGuckian.
Set in the Hilton Park woodland estate, this unique festival styles itself as 'no brow', fusing high art with generous helpings of popular culture.
Look out for film screenings, theatrical debuts, literary and historical talks, heated debates, a contemporary art auction, an X-tractor talent contest, visual art, poetry recitals, eccentric discourse, children’s entertainment, campfire camaraderie and an array of delicious food and drink that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
