Libraries NI has announced a programme of free events to celebrate Creativity Month in libraries during the month of March 2013.
Creativity Month is an initiative by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure and is held annually to stimulate new thinking and new collaborations to help creative people, creative ideas and creative businesses to emerge and flourish.
Libraries NI is participating in Creativity Month for the third successive year, promoting creativity through a series of events for people of all ages to enjoy. This year’s programme is based on the theme of ‘Creative Connections’ and will demonstrate the opportunities presented by the creative sector.
Events include talks, demonstrations, exhibitions, craft sessions, drama workshops for children, author visits, storytelling evenings, fashion workshops and more. There will also be a writer-in-residence programme led by the author Bernie McGill (pictured above) in libraries across Northern Ireland.
Carál Ní Chuilín, Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure, said: 'Our society faces many challenges in the economy, education, health and the environment. Creativity Month will showcase the work of organisations such as Libraries NI who along with others across the region are developing creative and innovative solutions to these challenges.'
Irene Knox, Chief Executive of Libraries NI, adds: 'I hope that Libraries NI’s plans for Creativity Month will give large numbers of the public, whether library members or not, the opportunity to participate in what promises to be an exciting and varied programme of free events throughout March. We would like to invite people of all ages to call into a local library to celebrate this month and be inspired to think creatively.
'Libraries offer so much more than books. If you haven’t been to a library for some time, why not take the opportunity during Creativity Month to visit your local library and see for yourself some of the exciting things that are happening. Details of library opening hours and more information about the programme of events are available on the Libraries NI website.'
