What's Your Perfect Library?
Libraries NI seeks nominations from readers to compile a collection of the country's best-loved novels
To celebrate National Libraries Day 2014, which took place on February 8, Libraries NI has announced an exciting search to find Northern Ireland’s best-loved novels.
In a bid to build Northern Ireland’s 'Perfect Library’, members of the public are being encouraged to let Libraries NI know their favourite read over the next six weeks.
From books displayed proudly on the middle shelf of book cases to the guilty pleasures hiding under pillows, Libraries NI want to know about your favourites. It doesn’t matter if you’re an avid reader or someone who hasn’t read a book in years, all nominations are welcome.
'What better way to celebrate National Libraries Day than to find out what people would like to see in a perfect library?' said Irene Knox, chief executive of Libraries NI.
'From classics and sci-fi through to crime and chick lit, we’re sure this campaign will raise a good debate about top reads and show the wide range of reading tastes of Northern Ireland readers.
'We hope that whatever books end up in the ‘Perfect Library’, readers will be encouraged to try new and different things. Sometimes you can surprise yourself with what you end up liking.'
To nominate a book, you must be over 18. Explain in less than 50 words what your favourite book is and why. All entries will be part of a prize draw with the winner receiving a copy of every book that makes the final cut.
The ‘Perfect Library’ campaign comes to a close on Saturday, March 22. You can pick up an entry card in any public/mobile library or enter on the Libraries NI website. Novels that make the final list will be announced on April 24, and copies of the books will be available to borrow from all public libraries for free.
