Wild Geese Festival - Memoir, Myth and Troubadours
The Write! Down writing collective's annual festival in County Down
The Wild Geese Festival of Poetry, Story and Song is taking place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in Strangford.
Olive Broderick, organizer of Write! Down, is thrilled with the quality of writers attending the fourth Wild Geese festival, including Michael Faulkner, Malachi O'Doherty and poets Kate Newmann and Damian Smyth. Newcomer Paul Maddern will also be reading from his first collection Kelpdings.
'This is the first year we've had a lecture in the morning,' Broderick says. 'On the role of writing and writers in myth-making. I'm not sure what Sandy Dunlop means by "a mythology of sustainable prosperity for all" but I'm looking forward to finding out!'
Not that new events are going to displace old favourites. Writing workshops will still be held in the afternoon with Malachi O’Doherty (for the festival's first memoir workshop), troubadour Colum Sands, Kate Newmann and Damian Smyth.
To wrap up the festival there is an evening concert that will combine music with readings by the various workshop artists.
There are a limited number of places left for the workshops. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to book in advance or for further information about any aspect of the festival or Write! Down’s activities.
