Derry in for a Guitar Overdose
Applications open for guitar festival's new strand of masterclasses with international virtuosos at the North West Regional College
North West guitar lovers have the chance to learn a lick or two from a host of international artists this month as this year's City of Derry Guitar Festival introduces 'Guitar Overdose', a new selection of unique workshops spanning the genres of acoustic, flamenco, slide blues and contemporary classical/acoustic guitar from August 20-23.
Featuring artists Alberto Grollo, Amir-John Haddad, Martin Harley and Declan Zapala, the workshops are open to guitarists of all backgrounds and abilities, offering both beginners and experienced players the opportunity to broaden their musical horizons under the guidance of acclaimed specialists from overseas. Each two hour class can be attended as a single event or as part of the full Guitar Overdose package, which offers a sample of every style across all four sessions.
Now in its thirteenth year, the festival also boasts its signature three-day classical guitar course with Carlos Bonell and Wiktoria Szubelak as well as a 'BB King Riff Library' electric guitar course and a beginners ukulele course. In addition the artists delivering the masterclasses can be seen perform across a series of concerts taking place the same weekend at the North West Regional College's Foyle Theatre. Tickets are priced at £12 or £10 concession.
Course fees range from £50 for a single class to £265 residential for the full weekend. Download a course application from the City of Derry Guitar Festival website or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
