First Acts Announced For Stendhal Festival
Folk legend Donovan among those set to play this year's Roe Valley arts weekender from August 7 - 8
Ireland’s best small festival, Stendhal Festival of Art, has announced part of their 2015 line-up, with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Donovan headlining at Ballymully Cottage Farm on opening night.
The legendary folk-pop troubadour’s career has spanned 50 years, 27 albums and has produced some of the most highly regarded and memorable songs in the history of music, including the unmistakable 'Mellow Yellow'.
'Sunshine Superman', 'Catch the Wind’ and 'Donna Donna' all beautifully captured the spirit of the 1960s, and saw their writer enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
'Donovan is one of the most celebrated names in folk music,' said Stendhal director Ross Parkhill, 'with a catalogue of songs that play a part in the soundtracks to many people’s lives. It is a fantastic coup for Stendhal to have him headline our Friday night this year and we can’t wait to see him in Limavady.'
Celebrating the festival's fifth birthday, 25 more artists who will be taking to the stage this year including Kilkenny grunge rockers Kerbdog, hip-hop DJ extraordinaire DJ Format, contemporary Irish trad trailblazers Kila, electro-dance duo Televisor and 2014 NI Music Prize winner, Robyn G Shiels.
'Again this year we will be showcasing the very best talent in as many genres as we can to give the music line-up as rich a variety as possible,' added Richill. 'We are really happy with the line-up so far and are looking forward to announcing the second raft of acts and our Saturday headliner very soon.'
