Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Taster Session

Some of Ireland's finest traditional musicians travel to Derry~Londonderry for a taster session at Music City!

The biggest celebration of Irish culture anywhere in the world is heading to the UK City of Culture from August 11 – 18, when the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann heads north of the border for the first time in its history.

The Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is set to be one of the biggest events of the City of Culture programme, as well as a key element of The Gathering, a spectacular, year-long celebration of all things Irish.

Over the course of eight days, the city will play host to thousands of musicians and 300,000 visitors as traditional music takes over the city with street sessions, fun-days, pageants, marching bands, competitions, céilí bands, concerts and singing.

The full Fleadh programme will be launched at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin in Derry~Londonderry at 7pm on Thursday, June 20. And on Friday, June 21, fans of the Fleadh will get a taste of things to come when some of the acts scheduled to perform in August take to the stage in Guildhall Square as part of the Music City! one-day festival.

'A Taste of the Fleadh' will run from 1pm to 11pm, and will feature performances from some of the top musicians in the country, including Donal Lunny, Padraig Ryne, Sylvian Barou, Dave Munnelly, Mick Coneely, Ryan Molloy and the Rua McMillan Big Band.
