Future Chaser Soundtrack the Summer

Derry~Londonderry band win Northern Ireland Tourist Board music competition

A track by Derry band Future Chaser has been chosen as the soundtrack for the Northern Ireland Tourist Board's major summer marketing campaign. Indie band Future Chaser beat off stiff competition from a wraft of Northern Irish musicians to scoop the covetted prize.

Their track, ‘Look Around’, impressed a team of judges including Stuart Baillie of the Oh Yeah Music Centre, Pearse Moore from the Nerve Centre and Ross Graham of FFWDNI. The track is currently being broadcast on television and radio to millions across Ireland.

'We are really pleased to have won this competition,' said lead singer, Niall Doherty. 'It’s been very exciting for us, as well as our family and friends, to see our song played on television in NITB’s new ad campaign.' The four-piece are all in their 20s and were also awarded £1,000 worth of new equipment.

Helen Carey, NITB Product Marketing Officer, is proud that the campaign will help to raise the profile of the band, and said that music is a key element in attracting visitors to Northern Ireland.

'Northern Ireland is known for producing great musical talent and our aim was to find an original song for our summer advertising campaign that really captured the country’s unique character and encouraged people to tour, journey and stopover in our little part of the world,' said Carey.

'The competition was tough, with over a hundred entries across the musical spectrum, from rap right through to rock, pop and traditional, but Future Chaser’s original song really hit the right note with the judges, with its impassioned lead vocal, catchy melodies and fitting lyrics.

'We were overwhelmed by the number and calibre of entries to the competition. To us, it is further proof of the quality and vibrancy of the Northern Ireland music scene at the moment.'
