Gign the Bann
Gig’n the Bann Cross Community Music and Dance Festival takes place annually in Portglenone
Gig’n the Bann Cross Community Music and Dance Festival takes place annually in Portglenone, Co Antrim. It has quickly become one of the major events of the summer festival calendar, showcasing an impressive line-up of top performers of traditional, Scottish, and folk music.
The festival brings artists from across Ireland and Scotland to the small Co Antrim village for one weekend each September. The programme includes concerts, traditional music sessions in local bars, workshops and cycle racing to name but a few events. Notable performers who have appeared at Gig’n the Bann in the past include Altan, North Cregg, Kieran McGilligan, and Cara Dillon.
Building on the success of the first pipe band event in 2002, Pipe’n the Bann features over 20 bands scheduled to battle it out in six different competitions.
Also part of the festivities, Bike’n the Bann takes place on Portglenone main street, while a vintage car rally starts from the nearby Cistercian Monastery along the Ballymena Road.
