Hugo Duncan Goes Classical with Ulster Orchestra
BBC Radio Ulster presenter and exponent of country music set to perform with the Ulster Orchestra for the first time this November
Fans of BBC Radio Ulster’s Hugo Duncan are in for a treat when the wee man from Strabane joins forces with the biggest band in the country.
In a one-off BBC Radio Ulster concert, country will meet classical as Duncan performs a selection of his listeners’ favourite country songs with support from a very different type of backing band – the Ulster Orchestra.
At this special ‘tea party’ performance, in Belfast's Ulster Hall on Tuesday, November 13, Duncan will sing some very familiar songs but with a unique twist. Joining Duncan at the concert will be singer and comedian, Conal Gallen.
'This really is a dream come true for me,' Duncan admitted following the announcement. 'For the past decade I’ve said I’d love to do something with the Ulster Orchestra and was always met with a blank look, so it’s hard to believe this is really happening.
'When BBC Radio Ulster confirmed it would be happening I honestly had tears in my eyes. It was totally unexpected and I’m delighted. It’s going to be a big task performing alongside the Ulster Orchestra but I’m going to go out there and give it my all and enjoy it and I hope the orchestra and audience enjoy it too.'
The concert will be broadcast in a special edition of the Hugo Duncan programme on Friday, November 16 on BBC Radio Ulster.
Tickets to the concert are complimentary and will be allocated on the basis of a random draw. Tickets for the concert are available from 1.30pm on Thursday, October 11, until 3pm on Friday, October 26, 2012.
