The folk, roots and Americana festival celebrates 15 years of authentic performance in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter
The 15th Open House Festival kicks off on Wednesday, June 19, with 35 top flight folk, roots and Americana music events scheduled to take place over five days in venues throughout the Cathedral Quarter in Belfast.
The festival will host 15 intimate concerts in venues such as the Black Box, the John Hewitt and the Sunflower, featuring Irish and American artists including Simone Felice, Lúnasa, Luka Bloom, Little Bear, Morgan O’Kane, Jesca Hoop, Hillfolk Noir and County Tyrone fiddle player, Shane McAleer, as well as Hillbilly act The BackYard Devils and emerging US singer, Bhi Bhiman.
The festival also includes a five-day Session Trail – 29 free traditional Irish and American music events with local musicians in pubs throughout the Cathedral Quarter. View the full festival programme below.
Kieran Gilmore, Open House Festival director, said: 'It’s hard to believe that the very first Open House Festival took place way back in 1999, when the fledgling Cathedral Quarter was just a twinkle in a Government Minister’s eye.
'15 eventful years later and both Open House and the Cathedral Quarter have become key parts of Belfast’s cultural landscape, with local artists and folk music at the heart of the city. As well as its annual festival in Belfast, Open House now includes a year round programme of events and will shortly launch its first festival in Bangor. We look forward to another 15 years of great music.”
The Open House Festival runs from June 19 – 23. Tickets are now on advance sale at a special 15th birthday price of just £5 – the offer ends on Saturday, June 15 when tickets return to full price. Children are welcome at all afternoon events if accompanied by an adult.
