Oxegen Goes Green
Create your own green video and win VIP tickets to this year's festival
The Oxegen music festival is calling on its fans to help promote a green agenda for festival goers with the launch of their ‘Rock The Environment’ film-making competition to find the festival's number one eco-evangelist.
Whether a straight piece to camera, a comedy sketch or a musical masterpiece, competition entries should focus on achievable ways in which individuals can reduce their carbon footprints, both in their daily lives and at Oxegen itself.
From the entries received, organisers will choose a shortlist of ten to be showcased on the Oxegen website. Fans will then get the opportunity to rate their favourites and the five winners will each have their videos shown on the giant screens on the Oxegen main stage. Each winner will also receive a pair of VIP tickets for the entire weekend.
Eamon Ryan TD, Irish minister for communications, energy and natural resources will present the winning videos in the new green ECOGEN area before the winning entries will be broadcast on the big screens.
'We need to lift Ireland’s spirits, get it rocking again, and Oxegen has the right formula,' comments Ryan. 'It’s sustainable, it’s green and it’s fun.
'I’m looking forward to visiting the new ECOGEN area at the festival and announcing the winners of the ‘Rock the Environment’ Competition. So be creative, make a video, get your message out there and be part of turning Oxegen green.'
Last year festival organisers staged the greenest Oxegen ever. From becoming Ireland’s largest 100% carbon neutral event to the provision of free park and ride facilities, the festival significantly reduced its environmental impact.
Festival goers also played a crucial role, many travelling to the event on public transport and responding to the introduction of the recyclable OXEGEN Eco-Cup, which saved over 300,000 plastic cups from landfill.
These achievements were recognised by the European Festival Association, YOUROPE, who awarded Oxegen its prestigious Green N Clean Award.
Filmmakers can submit their entries by uploading to the OXEGEN MUZU TV channel from Thursday, June 4 until Monday, June 22. Each film should be no more than three minutes in length. For full details on the competition and how to enter visit www.oxegen.ie/greentv.
