This Is Radio Ash
Tim Wheeler gets to play all his favourite tunes, from The Ramones to Teenage Fanclub
It’ll be a night less ordinary on BBC Radio Ulster on Monday, January 25 when The Late Show makes way for a special programme featuring Ash frontman Tim Wheeler.
In the one-off show, This Is Radio Ash, Wheeler talks Stuart Bailie through his ultimate playlist, as well as chatting about his current projects.
Stuart Bailie said: 'Getting Tim Wheeler to co-present a radio show has been on my wish list for years and I’m so pleased that he’s finally managed it. I had a feeling that he’d be playing tunes from The Ramones and Nirvana, but some of his other selections were brilliantly unpredictable. It was pure fun.'
Downpatrick band Ash is one of Northern Ireland’s most successful musical exports having notched up two chart-topping albums and around 18 Top 40 singles in the UK charts, including 'Girl From Mars', 'Oh Yeah', 'Burn Baby Burn', 'A Life Less Ordinary' and the Ivor Novello Award-winning 'Shining Light'.
In September last year the band launched their ambitious A-Z Series in which they are releasing 26 singles, one each fortnight, over 12 months, each presenting a letter of the alphabet. The latest single, 'Space Shot', represents the letter H and is featured in the programme.
Tim also chooses tracks from artists as diverse as The Beatles, Jackson 5, Arcade Fire and Teenage Fanclub.
This Is Radio Ash will be broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster, Monday, January 25 at 10pm, 92–95FM & DAB digital radio, digital TV and online at bbc.co.uk/radioulster.
