Take It Away Loan Scheme for Budding Musicians

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland launch new initiative to assist budding musicians over the age of 18 to purchase a musical instrument interest free

Whether you’re a budding Jimmy Page or an up and coming Jamie Cullum, learning a new musical instrument is top of many a new year resolution list, and now it’s easier than ever to acquire a new instrument with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Take It Away musical loan scheme.

Take It Away makes interest free loans available to anyone over the age of 18 in Northern Ireland (subject to credit check) who wants to buy the musical instrument of their choice, and is an extension of the popular Arts Council England scheme.

The cost of your new musical instrument is spread over 10 months, making it more affordable to get playing. A 10% deposit is required up front with the remainder to be paid back in nine monthly instalments – completely interest free.

Speaking about the scheme, Noirin McKinney, director of arts development at ACNI said the New Year is perfect time to get motivated and learn a new instrument or rediscover an old hobby.

'The Take It Away loan scheme is designed to make musicianship more affordable for all and, in doing so, we hope it will help foster our next generation of home-grown musicians, across all genres. The scheme has been hugely successful in England and we are delighted to make it available to everyone in Northern Ireland.

'Playing music can have a really positive impact on people’s lives, especially young people, and it is a great way to help build confidence and develop creativity, whether purely for pleasure or as part of a career.'

TakeIit Away (Northern Ireland) is available at registered member retailers only across Northern Ireland, including Machetts Belfast, Belfast Music Supplies, Henderson Music Derry~Londonderry and Ferris Music Portadown. To find out more on the Take It Away loan scheme, visit the ACNI website.
