An unprecedented opportunity for Belfast citizens to apply for free tickets to attend a Van Morrison concert on Friday, November 15 will open on Tuesday, October 22 for just over a week.

The one-off concert at the Waterfront Hall is being held to mark Belfast City Council conferring the Freedom of the City on the legendary musician to mark his remarkable global status and contribution to the city where he was born.

A total of 2,000 free tickets will be available and applications can be made on-line at the Belfast City Council and Waterfront Hall websites, or in person at the Waterfront Hall booking office from 10am on Tuesday, October 22 until 5pm on Wednesday, October 30.

A computerised draw will take place to ensure a spread of people from different parts of the city are in attendance. Successful applicants, who will receive two tickets each for either a standing or seated area, will be notified via email or phonecall on Wednesday, November 6.

Lord Mayor Councillor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, who will make a presentation to Van Morrison to mark the conferring of Freedom of the City on the evening said: 'We are expecting a huge level of interest, and our only disappointment is not being able to accommodate all of Van’s fans who will want to be there.

'It will be a very special occasion and will live long in the memory of those in attendance. The term living legend is too loosely thrown around these days but there is no doubting Van Morrison’s eligibility for such status due to his incredible talent as a songwriter, musician and vocalist.'

Belfast City Council have stated that are available only to people who live in the Belfast City Council electoral area boundary with postcodes starting BT1 to BT18 and BT36. Applicants must be over 16. Any tickets for the concert will become void if sold for profit.
