Omagh Makes Way for Culture Night
The regional feast of free arts and entertainment returns to venues and spaces throughout the district for a third year on September 18
Venues and organisations across Omagh will throw open their doors to the public next Friday for the area's third year participating in Culture Night, the all-Ireland and wider European celebration of culture, arts and creativity.
From 5pm to 11pm event-goers can explore and experience the town's cultural heritage with a bigger than ever array of free activities on offer. Organisers have dubbed this year's theme 'Revolves Around You'.
The Strule Arts Centre serves as the evening's artistic hub, hosting a packed programme of crafts, music, dance and children's entertainment while the carnival atmosphere spills over to the An Creagán Visitor Centre and Dún Uladh Cultural Heritage Centre, where live music and more can be enjoyed at both.
At Omagh Community House the Subterranean Film Club will showcase its work. Event participants will also have the opportunity to learn a new skill with Omagh Ethnic Communities Support Group.
Poetry recitals will also take place at The Weigh Inn and local historian, Vincent Brogan, will lead an historic walking tour of Omagh town. Meanwhile fine art and textiles will be exhibited at Crosshill and McKenna Galleries and Tattykeel Design Studio in addition to period antiques and vintage curiosities on display at Mullaghmore House.
Vice-Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Paul Robinson, said: 'This year’s Culture Night programme has a wonderful variety of events and activities with something for everybody and I encourage people to make the most of this unique opportunity.'
