English Youth Ballet Auditions

Prestigious company seeks 100 dancers to join cast of The Sleeping Beauty at the Grand Opera House

For the first time in Northern Ireland, English Youth Ballet is offering 100 male and female dancers aged eight to 18 the unique opportunity to take part in their production of The Sleeping Beauty, which comes to the Grand Opera House in Belfast in April 2014.

Auditions will take place at the Grand Opera House on Sunday, November 17, during which time young dancers will take part in a ballet class that offers a taste of life within English Youth Ballet. There will be two auditions on the day: the first is for eight to 11-year-olds from 2pm to 3.45pm, and the second is for dancers aged 12 to 18 from 4.15pm to 6pm.

The Sleeping Beauty will be presented at the Grand Opera House for three performances on April 25 – 26, 2014. Those successful in the auditions will join EYB’s seven principal dancers, who come from companies such as the Royal Ballet and English National Ballet. These dynamic artists will inspire the young dancers by coaching and performing alongside them. Rehearsals will last for 11 days during the Easter holidays.

While dancers can register for auditions on the day, it is advisable to pre-register to avoid queuing. For further information and to register, those interested can contact English Youth Ballet on 01689 856747 or by emailing Janet Lewis at misslewis@englishyouthballet.co.uk.

Janet Lewis started English Youth Ballet 15 years ago, and it has since grown to become one of the largest ballet companies in the UK, winning the prestigious Stage Award. As a former dancer with the Royal Ballet and English National Ballet, Lewis has danced all over the world. She was given an MBE in 2008 for her services to ballet and young people.

The opportunity to perform with English Youth Ballet (EYB) is unique. The company is one of the largest in the UK and is made up of seven professional principals and 100 dancers aged eight to 18. EYB principal dancers are of the highest calibre and have joined EYB from companies such as English National Ballet and San Fransisco Ballet.
