Jazz Up Your Bank Holiday at City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival

The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival welcomes four international acts to the Nerve Centre and other venues

Four stellar gigs are taking place in Derry~Londonderry next week as part of the 2013 City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival.

Internationally renowned acts Neil Cowley Trio, Pink Martini, The Puppini Sisters and Soul Rebels will be performing over the course of the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival runs from Thursday May 2 to Sunday May 5 on the banks of the Foyle. The opening night of the festival will see Soul Rebels Brass Band unleash their infectious New Orleans sound, which embraces the rich jazz traditions of their homeland, at the Nerve Centre.

On Saturday night, it’s time to glam up at the Grand Vintage Ball featuring the Puppini Sisters. Don your best vintage threads, put your dancing shoes on and throw some impressive shapes as The Venue in Ebrington gets a lavish makeover in homage to the city’s cultural and social past. Tickets are available from the Millennium Forum.

UK City of Culture musician in residence, Neil Cowley, who will take to the stage at the Nerve Centre with his band The Neil Cowley Trio. on the same night. Known for his work on Adele’s 21 Album, Cowley’s music fizzes with the energy of rock and surges with the dynamics of the dance floor.

On Bank Holiday weekend, Pink Martini arrive at the Millennium Forum on Sunday night fresh from a sellout gig Royal Albert Hall. Pink Martini have described their diverse musical style thus: 'if the United Nations had a house band in 1962, hopefully we’d be that band.'
