Watch films and read diaries from the 2007 Washington festival
Between St Patrick’s Day and the end of the 2007 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, Rediscover Northern Ireland set out to promote Northern Ireland’s arts and culture, the quality of its education, food and drink, and the potential of its tourism, trade and business in Washington DC.
From the short films of Terry Loane, the music and videos of Foy Vance, Camerata Ireland and Duke Special, to interviews with composer Brian Irvine and authors Lucy Caldwell and Glenn Patterson, CultureNorthernIreland followed the festival programme in all its forms.
With American artists currently in NI for 'A Mini-Festival of American Arts in Northern Ireland', we look back at some highlights from the 2007 Rediscover NI festival, and profile some of the artists putting Northern Ireland firmly on the global cultural map.
