Walled City Tattoo
Derry~Londonderry prepares to host over 500 drummers and dancers in Ebrington Square
A cast of over 500 performers are getting ready to bring Ebrington Square to life with the Walled City Tattoo. The large theatrical event, which will be staged in Derry~Londonderry as part of the UK City of Culture 2013, runs from August 28 – 31.
The production is Ireland’s first Tattoo and will combine the pomp, ceremony and grandeur of traditional tattoo events which occur regularly in cities like Edinburgh and London. The show features drummers, Highland and Irish dancers, acrobates and more, combining to create a vivid reflection of Derry~Londonderry's rich history and culture.
Audiences will have the chance to watch the world’s leading drums corps, Top Secret Drum Corps from Switzerland, perform their phenomenal routine as part of a 90-minute production. This will be their only UK and Ireland performance of 2013.
The event’s line-up will also feature The Crossed-Swords Pipe Band, Afrikan Warriors, Sontas, brass and melody flute bands and Highland and Irish dancers, as well as the Lisburn-based Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe Band following their World Pipe Band Championship win last weekend.
'This is a huge achievement for the band and I am particularly delighted that we have four of the world’s best drummers hailing from our city. It’s a fantastic accolade for the city and for everyone associated with the band,' said Mayor Martin Reilly.
The Walled City Tattoo comes to Ebrington Square, Derry~Londonderry from August 28 – 31. Tickets can be purchased from the Millennium Forum website.
