Craft NI launch new online craft directory and annual craft celebration
August Craft Month 09 is Northern Ireland’s annual celebration of craft, organised by Craft NI. This year events will be based around ceramics, with exhibitions, workshops, talks and seminars in venues across Northern Ireland.
August Craft Month is chock full of things to do for dedicated followers of craft as well as children and families whether you want to participate in making, appreciating or buying craft.
This year’s focus is on ceramics and brings together several exhibitions of work by highly-acclaimed ceramicists. Craft NI's 2009 programme includes two major exhibitions in Hillsborough, County Down, entitled Our Objects: Contemporary Ceramics in Context and Northern Ireland Contemporary Ceramics.
These exhibits are supported by ceramics exhibitions Microcosmos - An exhibition by Irish ceramicist Frances Lambe in Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown; Material Morphology at the Naughton Gallery; and Departures, an exhibition of work by Michael Moore which tours to the Strule Arts Centre.
This programme is complemented by lots of other craft and applied art activities including talks by renowned Coleraine-born potter Jack Doherty and British ceramicist Richard Slee of international acclaim.
