Derry Makes Way for LEGO Landmarks

Nerve Centre hosts the first Irish exhibition of Warren Elsmore's Brick Wonders from February 6 - and your creation could be included

Next month Derry~Londonderry welcomes Ireland's first public display of the 'blockbuster' Brick Wonders Exhibition. Comprising of artist Warren Elsmore's LEGO models of the ancient, modern and natural Wonders of the World, the showcase comes to the Nerve Centre from February 6 to May 2.

Using only standard pieces of the number one ranking toy Elsmore recreates stunning likenesses of historical icons, restoring even those which have crumbled away to full glory. The collection is sure to take LEGO fanatics on a unique journey through time when it arrives in the North West.

To celebrate the 'coup', Derry City and Strabane District Council are encouring the public to build their very own Wonder LEGO Models for the chance to go on display alongside Elsmore's creations. Children, young people and adults alike can put their creative skills to use and be a part of the global phenomenon.

Divided into three age levels – 6-12, 13-16 and over 16s – the competition is open for submissions until noon on Friday, January 22. Entries can be any size or shape but must be made entirely out of only LEGO.

Elsa Edwards, Legacy Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council said the Brick Wonders Competition is a great way of getting the public excited about the exhibition.

''We really want people to get involved in this competition and to come up with some fantastic creative designs that will not only showcase their LEGO building talents and imagination but will also tell a story about them, their friends and family or their community.

'How the public interpret this competition is up to them but if you really want to impress the judges then you might want to consider building something that makes your town, city or community stand out.'
