MAC International Art Prize Launched
Curator and judge Hugh Mulholland reveals details of the £20,000 biennale award, the largest of its kind in Ireland
The MAC in Belfast has launched Ireland's largest art prize, MAC International, a biennale award worth a headline-grabbing £20,000 in prize money.
In the video below, curator and one of three judges, Hugh Mulholland, reveals details of the shortlist – which features 25 artists in total, and three from Ireland – painstakingly selected from an overall submission list of 1,000.
All artists will exhibit their work in The MAC's various gallery spaces from October 30, with the artist judged to have made the greatest contribution to the exhibition announced on opening day. The prize money is derived from a £20 entry fee, and is just £5,000 short of the Turner Prize.
