Co Antrim artist whose naive style pays homage to Irish figurists such as Markey Robinson
Martin Laverty was born in Co Antrim in 1964. Self taught, his naive artistic style pays homage to Irish figurists such as Markey Robinson and Gladys Maccabe.
Laverty’s images are deceptive in that their apparently simple construction belies complex underpinning and arduous advance planning. His themes reflect his love of the land and appreciation of traditional local pubs.
Laverty’s work has featured on RTE and Sky television. He was the sole Ulster artist represented at the Irish Show in Omaha, Nebraska in 2004. His prints and cards sell to 15 countries in five continents.
Martin Laverty is represented exclusively by Hughes Galleries Ltd.
