NISP Connect the Creative Industries

Creative industries support network runs seminar at CultureTECH in Derry~Londonderry ahead of Invent awards at Titanic Belfast

Remember when, as a kid, you would sit in your bedroom and dream up fabulous inventions, scribble down designs on paper, then try and build something out of whatever junk you could find? Well, if that spirit never left you, Northern Ireland is the place to be.

NISP (Northern Ireland Science Park) Connect is hosting the inaugural Invent competition in Belfast this October to seek out the most commercially viable inventions in various categories, including creative media and consumer internet, engineering, agri-food, life and health, electronics and enterprise software.

Although entry to the 2014 competition is now closed, inventors can attend the awards ceremony in Titanic Belfast on October 2 for inspiration from this year's participants, and to learn more about how to apply for next year's competition.

In the meantime, NISP Connect are running a seminar at the North West Regional Science Park in Derry~Londonderry as part of the 2014 CultureTECH digital festival. 'Frameworks: Startup Fundamentals' will be led by experienced entrepreneur Eoin Lambkin, who will give tips on how to bring creative industry ideas to fruition.

NISP Connect is part of a wider network of organisations bringing Northern Ireland’s entrepreneurial spirit to the fore, helping to forge working relationships between creators and investors to capitalise on Northern Ireland's wealth of talent working within the creative industries, one of Northern Ireland's fastest growing sectors.

Peter Edgar, programme manager with NISP Connect, explains in the podcast above that being based in Northern Ireland is no longer a hurdle for those working within the creative industries hoping to compete on a global level.

Visit the Invent 2014 website for more information. CultureTECH runs in venues across Derry~Londonderry until September 21.
