Internet Sensations Heading to Derry for One-Day YouTube Gathering

VlogIT 2015 sees top vloggers from UK and Ireland share money-making expertise and more at the North West Regional College

Some of the UK and Ireland’s top YouTubers will arrive in Derry~Londonderry next Thursday, June 11 for a free one-day event exploring the business side of YouTube and vlogging.

VlogIT 2015, in association with Honeycomb - Creative Works and Culture Northern Ireland will be hosted in the North West Regional College, and will feature some of the most exciting newcomers to hit the Internet.

Guests include 23-year old twins Niki and Sammy who have grown their channel from 10,000 subscribers in March 2014, to over 135,000 subscribers today, talking about everything from pop culture, films and a guest interview with former Labour leader, Ed Miliband.

The twins will be joined by Dubliner Melanie Murphy who started her YouTube channel Melaniie in 2013 and quickly racked up over 20 million views. As well as beauty, clothing and health, she often strays into more personal territory — covering topics such as her struggle with an eating disorder.

Rising star commentator James Mitchell TV will also appear at the event, having recently made headlines after coming out to his grandmother online in support of a Yes vote in Ireland's marriage equality referendum.

Featured panellists include Lurgan-based mash-up singing sensation Emma Horan, who has raked up thousands of views on YouTube and Facebook, and Irish radio personality and most recently, viral YouTuber, Riyadh K who is sweeping the internet with his hilarious and sometimes, controversial vlogs. Riyadh has also interviewed stars such as Russell Crowe, David Guetta, Piers Morgan and the cast of Orange Is The New Black.

Speaking recently in the Sunday Independent newspaper, Riyadh, who is hoping to make YouTube his career said: 'It’s a really exciting time to be on YouTube. We are self-made entrepreneurs of the digital realm. I have been involved with media round the world because of my videos and it goes to show what can happen when you put time and energy into the right things.'

In the afternoon attendees will learn about the vlogging development process. London-based Spirit Digital Media will lead workshops on content creation, audience development and analytics, John Deery will cover the basics in video editing, whilst Olivia O’Kane from Carson McDowell, will cover the legal dos and don’ts on social media.
